News — Rosie puts her best specs forward for a win
A Washington woman has been chosen from thousands of proud glasses wearers as a finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Rosie Henderson, aged 65, could follow in the footsteps of last year’s award winner Shane Haron, taking home £10,000, and have the chance to mingle with the stars at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Glasses wearers across the UK and Republic of Ireland have been showing off their specs style by sharing their selfies online throughout the spring and summer.
Rosie was invited to visit her local Specsavers store in Sainsbury’s at The Galleries to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £129 glasses voucher.
Rosie says: ‘I have a collection of wonderful frames including Balmain, Moschino and my new blue frames from the Kenzo collection. It’s a guilty pleasure, the quirkier the better.
She continues: ‘I like to style my glasses with my outfit, I may need them to get about my day-to-day but they are also a fashion accessory.
‘The team at the Washington store have been brilliant, I really hope I make it to the final in London.
Claire Elliott, store director of Specsavers Washington stores, says: ‘We are thrilled that Rosie is a semi-finalist, we wish her all the best – it would be a brilliant achievement for her to get to the next stage.’
The awards were launched by Strictly Come Dancing star and TV personality Oti Mabuse earlier this year. If she triumphs in her category, Rosie will meet Oti and rub shoulders with many other celebs at the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
There are eight categories including a social media winner voted for by the public. All category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
