News — M GALLERIES UNVEILS LINE-UP OF CELEBRATIONS TO MARK 50TH ANNIVERSARY
M Galleries, Shopping Centre, will be hosting free family events this month to mark its 50th anniversary.
The centre, which was acquired by national commercial property and investment collective, M Core, in 2022, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on 23rd July.
Local families are invited to get involved with the celebrations during 23rd – 27th July by participating in a special art project. Children will be able to take part in crafting sessions between 12pm and 4pm daily to create a piece of art that will be displayed in the centre. There will also be free face painting available on 23rd July.
During the month, a new piece of artwork created by local artist, Barrie Watson, will be unveiled in Wessington Square at the centre at 12pm.Sunderland-based Barrie, who has had work featured in a number of local publications and exhibitions, has designed a bespoke mural to commemorate the centre’s milestone.
There will also be a chance for visitors to win a 50th anniversary goodie bag which is worth over £50. As a special way of sharing the centres birthday, all shoppers who are turning 50 this year have a chance of winning. To enter, shoppers 50 or turning 50 just have to take a photograph of themselves visiting M Galleries and tag in the centre on social media. M Galleries was originally opened on 23rd July 1974 by Princess Anne and has recently undergone a number of updates, including new tenants such as B&M and Trespass, and a name change. More exciting developments will take place later this autumn when JD, Pure Gym and Loungers open in the former marketplace.
